Oink oink! |
Here's my first dish of the night. And it was a big one. Elena's Restaurant served up the Pork Adobo Fried Rice Omelet. It was good. Not as heavy as you'd think but I had to take a breather after this one.
Nonstop Honolulu put together a pork dish contest. The judges were, from left to right: Catherine Toth, Melissa Chang and Mari Taketa. Catherine is holding Hula Shrimp's Oink Oink burger. It was greeted with oohs and ahs as it as brought to the table.
Here's some fancy HDR work to give the illusion of movement. I'm wallowing in my own self indulgence. Next slide!
I had heard that the mango pie from Camille's On Wheels was running out so I knew I had to try it. It was amazing! Thank you Camille!
I also knew I had to try Inferno's Wood Fire Pizza. They bring a brick oven to Eat The Street and that is fairly unique in Hawaii. This is the Smoked Pork Pizza. It has locally smoked pork, portobello mushrooms, sweet Maui onions and sweet and spicy barbecue sauce. It was really good if don't mind spicy pizza.
There was more than just food. Yelp had a booth and had a giant Jenga game. It was fun! Especially when all of the giant Jenga pieces came crashing down. I would have liked to have video of that but I didn't have the patience to shoot every single move.
While I was digesting my food, I decided to take a walk around. Xtreme Tacos had the longest line of the night. The line stretched nearly to the other side of the parking lot where there were more food trucks.
On the other side of the parking lot, the Soul Patrol truck had a pretty good line going. It was also at around this time when the rain came down a little. It was only passing and I got a little wet.
I wanted another dessert so I went to the Aloha Ice Cream Tricycle to get a Ju-Mui Sundae. It's a Li Hing Mui flavored frozen ice mixed with vanilla ice cream. I liked that it was small because I couldn't handle a large sundae. There is also a Li Hing Mui seed in there so you don't want to bite down on everything!
There was also a balut-eating contest. This is not for the faint of heart. Ricky Li (pictured, above) is an expert at eating balut. He ate four of them.
Needing more sweet stuff to down, I went to the Onopops tent to get this. I was tired of pork dishes so I got a Mexican Chocolate Onopop. It was interesting.
I ended the night with a Bobalicious Li Hing Pineapple Bubble Drink. I liked it except I don't remember there being any bubbles inside. It was very slushy. Maybe they ran out of bubbles?
I had fun all night meeting old friends, new friends and eating a lot of food! I'm not sure when is the next time I can go so I'll cherish this one for a long time.
