I'm going to try to be as objective about this as possible. Randy Moss is done with press conferences this year and seems content with being fined $25,000 a week. This comes after the Minnesota Vikings lost to the New England Patriots today 28-18.
The video above is Moss' press conference after the game. Here is a link to the complete transcript.
Update 11/1/2010: Randy Moss has been waived by the Vikings, according to ESPN.
Here's what I think about Moss' situation:
Frankly, I'm glad Moss is done talking. I don't have a feeling about the guy one way or another. I just think he's a great wide receiver. I'll let the baggage he has had with teams before the Patriots slide. As far as I was concerned, when he joined the Patriots he started with a clean slate. But several weeks ago, Moss seemingly strained his relationship with the Patriots by going on a rant in a post-game press conference:
This led to a blockbuster trade sending Moss and a 7th round draft pick in 2012 to the Vikings for a 3rd round draft pick in 2011. The way I see it, Moss didn't intend to get traded in midseason. In fact, during his rant about being underappreciated he said that he wanted to stay in New England but was honest and said that this would probably be his final year as a Patriot. Again, it sounds like he expected to play the rest of the year out with New England.
So, he's not going to do any more press conferences unless he dictates the questions because he doesn't want to get into more trouble. Actually, he may be too late. Although he doesn't name Vikings head coach Brad Childress by name, Moss said that it was disheartening when "players and coaches" didn't listen to him when he told them about some of the Patriots schemes and everything Moss said came true on Sunday. So, he threw his team under the bus for that. During today's press conference, Moss also found it necessary to heap praises unto Patriot's head coach Bill Belichick, calling him the "best coach in football history," and the rest of the Patriots team. And he misses them.
So, I'm glad Moss is silencing himself. Because he really can't afford yet another trade to a team that's even worse off than his previous team.
